Who Comes on Retreat?

(Hint: It’s Not Who You Think)

What do a doctoral scientist, a foreign diplomat, a U.S. postal worker, and a med student have in common?

How about a finance professional from the Philippines, an athletic physical therapist from the Mountain West, and a married mother of three?

No, they didn’t “walk into a bar.” (And no, this isn’t a joke).

 The answer? They are us.

They are just a handful of the diverse, interesting, and authentically curious people who have joined On Point Adventures.

There is a stubborn misconception that wellness retreats are reserved for the super-flexible, the 20-something influencers, or the die-hard practitioners who can balance on their heads for an hour. I remember when I first began my yoga and meditation practices, the notion of risking my time and my money to join a group retreat scared me.

The doubts were loud: What if I don’t like the people? What if I look foolish? What if I’m expected to do things I can’t do? What if I feel left out?

All those fears really just boil down to one essential, human question: “Will I be okay?”

When Lauren and I founded On Point, we had a very specific vision. We wanted to offer experiences that were inspiring, inclusive, well-organized, and deeply authentic. We wanted them to feel inclusive, adventurous, inspired, and authentic. Intimacy and small group sizes were critical. I remember saying early on, "The day we hire a full-size tour bus is the day I’m OUT."

That is why our movement practices on retreat are adaptable to everyone, inviting you to meet yourself exactly where you are. (No pressure, ever.) It’s why any mindfulness practices are simple and practical, empowering you to recreate that calm for yourself anytime.

And it is why we explore. We want to know what makes a place truly "tick." We connect with locals who are passionate about their culture. When we combine mindfulness with culturally immersive travel, we stop being tourists and start being present. We engage in real human conversations. We fully immerse in the sights, sounds, textures, smells, and tastes of a place.

That is what travel should be.

When you glance around the dinner table on one of our trips, I can never predict exactly who will be there but I can promise it’s always the right people. You see distinct backgrounds, different generations, and unique stories. You see busy professionals needing a reset, parents needing a pause, young people wanting to explore, elders comitted to lifelong personal growth, students celebrating a milestone.

The desire for connection, health, happiness, and discovery doesn't belong to a single demographic. Different backgrounds, ages, stages, experiences, values and genders. What they all have in common is that they are curious souls who value culture, connection, and personal growth. And that truly is the tie that binds.

So, if you’ve been holding back because you aren't sure if you’re the "right type" of person for an On Point Adventure with us, let this be your sign. You are exactly the right type.

Come as you are. We’ll save you a spot!
